Patient transfer boards and turntables are essential tools for daily use in healthcare settings to facilitate safe and smooth transfers of patients between different surfaces or positions. These assistive devices are designed to reduce friction, making it easier for carers to move patients while minimising the risk of injury to both patient and carer.
- Transfer Boards/Slides: Transfer boards are flat, sturdy devices typically made from wood, plastic, or composite materials. They are used to bridge the gap between two surfaces, facilitating the transfer of a patient from one surface to another. Transfer boards are particularly helpful for transferring patients from beds to wheelchairs, chairs, or other surfaces, or vice versa.
- Turntables: Turntables, also known as swivel discs or transfer discs, are circular rotating platforms that assist in turning or pivoting a patient while seated. They are especially useful for patients with limited mobility making it easier for carers to assist with transfers between chairs, beds and other seated positions.
Transfer boards and turntables are both crucial in improving patient mobility and reducing the physical strain on carers during transfers. They provide safe and comfortable transfer options for patients while minimising the risk of injuries related to handling and transfers.

Hawley Amputee Transfer Slide
The Hawley Amputee Transfer Slide, with its smooth surface and non-slip base, has been specifically sized and shaped to provide the ideal platform for bilateral amputees to be transferred between a wheelchair and a bed.
Duo Transfer Slide
The unique design of the Duo Transfer Slide allows for an angled transfer as well as a straight transfer from one seated position to another. It is available with or without handles. The handgrips at either end of the Deluxe model give the user a means of pulling themselves across the smooth surface, while ensuring the slide is safely secured during the transfer.
Flexible Transfer Slide
The Flexible Transfer Slide is designed to allow non-weight-bearing or semi-weight-bearing patients to be transferred between two surfaces, either independently or with the assistance of a nurse/carer. Ideal for use by ambulance staff, chair, or bed to carry chair etc.
Lateral Transfer Slide
The Lateral Transfer Slide has a smooth surface and a non slip base allowing a patient to be moved from one surface to another without the need to be lifted. When used in conjunction with the Transfer Sheet (Loco 009) correct posture during the transfer is maintained. The Lateral Transfer Slide has tapered edges to facilitate easy insertion and removal. A foldable version, ideal for transportation purposes, is also available.
Locomotor Turntable
The Locomotor Turntable allows for independent transfers for those who have difficulty moving their feet when swivel-transferring between seated surfaces. It is available in two sizes, with either a fabric or a plastic surface.
Rota-Cushion
The Rota-Cushion is a soft padded, flexible turning disc ideal for use on car seats, chairs, and beds. It allows a smooth swivel transfer without painful jarring or twisting.
